Freeman Toyota GM Dane Minor Ain’t Married
to None of Them (Radio Show Hosts)

Individuals who are able to capture the public spotlight often acquire fans. With some who’s devotion is such that they progress to become “groupies”. This phenomenon most often happens with rock stars, but can occur with other celebrities such as actors, politicians and such. It can even occur with lowly radio show hosts who shill car dealerships. However, the term “celebrity” overstates the status achievable by any such car talker. There is the stigma of having been car salesmen. So perhaps these radio car talkers are more infamous than famous.
This brings us to the case of Dane Minor, the general manager of Freeman Toyota and Honda. Freeman pays for advertisements on all three of the Dallas market radio shows that focus on vehicle sales. Minor, himself, calls into The Car Pro Show almost every week. And he occasionally is in studio with the hosts for both that show and on KLIF’s Wheels. So while he himself is not a celebrity, Dane Minor exists within the periphery of infamy.
Put another way, Dane Minor is a radio car talker groupie. Whereas the descriptor ‘groupie’ probably offends Minor, he likely prefers the label of “Lemon Aide”. Dane is not seeking proximity to fame. He is there because of the lemons. There are parking lots full of Toyota Scions and Honda Insights to sell. So, Minor must support and inspire these car talkers to move them lemons. He is there because of the vehicle sales.
All of the above reveals the parallels found between the metroplex’s Lemon Aide Penny Dane and the Band Aide Penny Lane of the movie Almost Famous. Consider the following scene:

Inspired by these close parallels, Outside Automotive announces its upcoming release of a sequel: Almost Infamous.
Released in the year 2000, the original movie had more success with the critics than at the box office.
It must be noted that Minor’s devotion to car talkers varies. This past Saturday morning, Dane Minor was live and in studio on both The Car Pro Show and the Wheels with Don Grantham and John Ingram show (both shows air from the same building). How this came about was explained as follows:

On that same morning, KFXR's The Automotive Edge Show (with host Kurt Chase) ran a live, four hour remote from the Freeman Toyota dealership. Yes, the dealership of which Dane Minor is general manager. But as with all their recent live remotes at Freeman Toyota, Minor was a no-show during The Automotive Edge Show broadcast. And judging Dane’s comments on the Car Pro Show, it appears that Minor never had any intention to spending his morning aiding Kurt Chase with the shilling of Freeman’s Toyotas.
Sorry Kurt. Dane is just no that much into you. Always the bridesmaid. Not even the maid of honor on that Saturday. And never the bride.
